If you want to achieve the target weight that you have set for yourself, and want to tone up your body, by losing or maintaining your existing weight, then all you have to do is set goals and targets and follow them religiously. Your target or goal is the guide whereby you want to action your plans to achieve them so as to be fit and have a healthy body and mind.

What is Smart?

Smart is a combination of few things like specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bounded. Their use in attaining a fit body is as follows.

S---Specific

When you are setting a goal, ensure that it is not vague but specific. The goal must be clear and easily identifiable. A vogue objective can never set you on the right course. It may often require a series of objectives leading to a goal to be followed and attained. It will be a practical and scientific approach to a specific issue which is your goal. An example will make this clear.

Mistaken idea - if you gain 10 extra pounds and want to shed it off at one it will be a wrong idea. It does not have any specific objective and goal therefore it is likely that thegoal will be dropped off soon.

Correct approach --- I shall attend the gym and workout inside or outside the gym for 40-60 minutes thrice a week, to lose those additional 15 pounds.

Clearly, the second approach makes you more accountable to your goal.

M---Measurable

The advancement made needs to be measured, so that you could evaluate your achievement. The goal is losing 15 pounds, thus you need to measure how much you need to lose weekly or fortnightly. Thus if you see positive results, after you measure progress would motivate you further.

A ---Attainable

You should set practical goals. If you set goals that are not practical and are impossible to attain then you will be frustrated to carry out the whole process. The time should also be proportional to the goal o the process remains healthy and practical. If you are not confident enough then you can take the suggestion of the experts.

R ---Realistic

Your objectives may be high, but ensure that they are realistic and achievable by persons like you. The goal may be ambitious but must be realistic to boost your confidence and to keep you on the right track.

T--- Time

A deadline would always create urgency. Thus you need to set your goals against time. You need to be specific in saying whether you want to lose 15 pounds in 3 months or to lose some extra weight in the next few months.

Your success in your efforts would depend on the way you set your goals for fitness and how serious and motivated you are to achieve them.
