Reviewing The Sun God And The Sun Goddess

By Haywood Raptis

Over time there have been many religions and they are always changing. Each region of the world has a different set of beliefs. Our sun is a big part of the reason for some of these beliefs. Some have a sun god and some of them use a sun goddess.

No matter which they chose to have, at its core it was the same belief. The sun warms us with its heat. It provides light so that we can see in the darkness. Its rays help plant life flourish on the Earth thus providing sustenance for all who inhabit it. It is the reason we are alive.

Anyone who has a sun god or sun goddess has the belief of being thankful to where we come from and whatever keeps us alive. The sun itself keeps all living things alive and Mother Earth keeps us cradled. Some worship the actual sun and some create idols that take the place of the sun.

Some people use the sun as a fertility god. The is held responsible for birth and replenishing life on the Earth. Couples sometime pray to fertility gods or a sun goddess and even have one in the room when they are trying to conceive a baby.

Some people thought that a sun god and sun goddess may have rode the skies in chariots. They thought that some gods were responsible for the suns movement and even the weather.

Sun idols took on many forms and names. Some of them looked like animals. Lions and Owls have been used as a sun god or sun goddess to represent the sun in some religions.

The sun god and sun goddess were known by many different names over time. In Greece, the idol of the sun god was known as Apollo. It was said that Apollo had a chariot that he used to ride in. He was held responsible for the movement of the sun.

When it comes to the Ancient Norse religion, they had both a sun god and a sun goddess. The male entity was referred to as Freyr and rode a boar. He was believed to sail across the seas in a ship and when his ship was not on the water, he folded it up and placed it in his pocket.

Some of these things sound a little far fetched but, even modern day stories of Jesus to some seem a little far fetched. Some just cannot believe in walking on water and making wine without grapes

No matter what you believe, it is unlikely that no one religion will ever be proven 100% right or real. The peoples of the world needed an answer for why the sun was in the sky, why the sky was blue and even to why and how they ended up on the earth. Religion is freedom and you should follow your heart when choosing whether you want to believe in a sun god or a sun goddess or whatever else may feel right to you.
