Do Men Go To Esthetics School?

By Roxy Albright

Men often enjoy their experiences working in esthetics (or aesthetics) and attending esthetics school. Men could possibly feel quite uncomfortable when they have some interest in the esthetics field, though. Why? For decades it has been an industry dominated by women. Nonetheless, at present it has become not so unusual to find a man enrolled at a laser institute or esthetics school. The male experience in esthetics can often be a quite positive one. This can be a surprise to people who still find it a female business.

We shall discuss multiple men who've been or intend to be estheticians. We shall first examine two men who've worked in esthetics and unearthed that being male was an edge. We shall then discuss an aesthetician that found that it was not always great being a male in esthetics school. Finally, we shall discuss why men attending schools such as this can be a little more common than in yesteryear.

On an online forum multiple male estheticians or men in esthetics school responded to a man who asked a question about whether there were any men in the field. One man responded that he had retired after being a practicing esthetician for 42 years. He suggested that being male was an advantage in his estimation. Another commenter was recently graduated from an aesthetics institution and elaborated on how it could be an advantage. He said that he was unique in his area and that many female clients preferred him for his differing perspective. He also suggested that for medical aesthetics job hunting, being a male helped him find a job very quickly after graduating. He continued that he felt glad about men being more welcome in the beauty world than in the past.

Undoubtedly many guys seeking to sign up at an esthetic laser institute has experienced and would experience encouragement to see the comments these men made. But, some men have suggested that it's not necessarily easy being a man in esthetics school. Yet another male commenter in the same forum conversation stated that he found a few reasons it had been difficult. Among the problems he pointed out was what he called 'a little battle of the sexes with [his] classmates.' Being part of a tiny minority in just about any environment could be difficult. Therefore men who turn to go this way ought to prepare themselves to possibly feel isolated.

That said, it's becoming more and more common for men to get aesthetics training. Why? In general cosmetics have become more accepted for the male set. Not just from the occupational side, but also as clients. This general acceptance of males seeking treatments that primarily only women used to get has allowed more men to be interested and gravitate toward these careers.

Men could have some issues due to their gender in going to an esthetics school or laser institute, but they can also find some competitive advantages for their gender, also.
