Certain Stuff To Learn About Sunless Tan Sprays

By Haywood Hunter

Tanning is very popular nowadays, as it allows people having a light color skin and not only, to obtain a beautiful bronze color. This can be done during a vacation on the beach, but also in the intimacy of a home or in a cosmetic saloon. A faster alternative to sun exposure is the use of sunless tan sprays. These are able to offer the same bronze color, without risking that the UV rays are damaging the skin. An example from this category of products is the tan sprays.

With sunless tan sprays the result can be obtained instantly. This makes the product ideal for those interested to expose a natural tan color during all seasons of the year. Tan spray is a best solution to obtain a natural and uniform bronze color. The big advantage is that these types of tan sprays can be easily used at home to tan the skin or just to maintain the color obtained in a professional saloon.

There are many advantages for which to choose sunless tan sprays products. The most important one is the possibility to obtain a uniform bronze color, with no dark spots or lighter areas. The use of tan sprays do not require rub application, and it can be useful to cover hard to reach areas. After application the spray dries instantly, and the non-oil texture leaves the pores free.

The chemical composition of a tan spray is based on sugar, which is working with the skin's natural chemistry. The effect is a natural and beautiful tan, without risking harmful effects of the sun rays. Celebrities are the biggest users of sunless tanning sprays. Some have reported to have their own tanning spraying machine, and trained assistants to help them use it.

Researchers from the American Academy of Dermatology are sustaining that the active ingredient responsible for the tanning effect from tan sprays is the dihydroxyacetone (DHA). The substance is a derivate of glycerin that increases the melanin production. Melanin is the substance responsible for the darkening of skin's cells.

As the DHA interacts with the dead cells of the skin, this is not absorbed directly, and therefore is not toxic. But as the dead cells are removed constantly from the skin's surface, the effect of sunless tan sprays containing DHA lasts from five to seven days. The DHA substance was first time discovered around 1920 by German researchers, and it is used for the preparation of cosmetics for more than 30 years.

The use of DHA in the chemical composition of cosmetics, including tan sprays, restricts their use only for external application. For this reason all sunless tan sprays should be used only for the external body parts; lips or other surfaces covered by a mucous membrane should be avoided. For other sensitive areas, as for example around the eye, these products should not contain color additive, unless this is specifically permitted for this use.

A sunless tanning product can help to obtain a beautiful tanned skin in very short time. But the important thing to remember is that tan sprays are not substitutes of sunscreen lotions. This is because sunless tanning products are not having the capacity to protect the skin against the harmful effects of sun rays.
